Social media is a powerful marketing tool, but do you know how to advertise your cleaning business effectively on social platforms?

Social media advertising is a useful and relatively inexpensive way to connect with customers, especially locals. However, it’s important that you know how to advertise your cleaning business on social channels the right way if you want to see significant returns. It’s not as simple as putting up a post on Facebook. There are other tricks and techniques you’ll want to take advantage of to help you reach the people who need your business the most.

The most compelling social posts share a few common traits. To begin with, your social posts should be brief. This is easy to do on Twitter because it only allows 280 characters, although the average Tweet (that’s what Twitter posts are called) is much shorter. On the other platforms, however, you’ll need to be just as concise even though they allow for more characters.

Additionally, the content you include makes a world of difference, especially for a cleaning company. Feature high-quality pictures of completed jobs that demonstrate the caliber of your work. Make all of your copy relevant and easy to read without sacrificing enthusiasm. Share your contact information and a link to your company website where customers can learn more and request your services.

And don’t forget to use hashtags. One of the most important parts of learning how to advertise your cleaning business on social media is learning how to use hashtags. Hashtags are words or phrases strung together and preceeded by the # symbol, such as #cleaningbusiness. Doing this “tags” your post as relevant for that particular search phrase, so when someone searches for #cleaningbusiness, your post will appear in the results. Multiple hashtags increase the likelihood of your post being viewed, so don’t be shy about using them. (Just don’t go overboard. Stick with two or three on Twitter and Facebook. You can use up to 10 or 12 on Instagram. They tend to get ignored on LinkedIn, however.) Use them within the copy of the post itself, or you can list some of them at the end. Either way, they will drive traffic to your post.

How To Advertise Your Cleaning Business

How to advertise your cleaning business: 3 Ways to use social media to boost your visibility

1. Working with the platform

Which social media platforms should you post to? Some social channels may be more effective than others for advertising your service. Instagram, for example, is a great platform for a cleaning business because the primary content is images and videos. You can post examples of work you’ve done, short clips of your employees hard at work, or even content that shows you interacting with happy customers (which is always a great endorsement).

Because of its reputation as a professional networking site, LinkedIn is another excellent platform for a cleaning business. You are more likely to connect with business owners that need your help as opposed to individuals who may not require commercial cleaning services.

Facebook and Twitter can work, too, but you’ll need to take a slightly different approach. Facebook is primarily a vehicle for people trying to keep in touch, so a more personal vibe could help your commercial cleaning businesses get noticed here. Twitter is largely text-based and you’re limited in the number of characters you can use. That can work in your favor, though, if you can share short pieces of wit, wisdom, and humor.

2. Gaining followers

Part of learning how to advertise your cleaning business on social media is learning how to get more followers. There are a few ways to do this. Plenty of services will offer to build your following by paying for them, but that can not only get costly; it may also result in having a bunch of followers who aren’t that interested in your business. Another, better way is to engage with other users and pique their interest enough to get them to follow you. You can do this by liking, sharing, or commenting on their posts, and also by following them first. This method requires regular interaction and will be slow-going at first. The result, however, should be a more relevant group of followers who will then hopefully share your posts as well so they end up in front of the right people.

One last way to gain followers is to direct people to your social channels from your website. Ask them to follow you and to tell other people about your business. In the end, it’s no different than word-of-mouth advertising, except there are a lot more mouths and a lot more people to listen.

3. Encouraging and incentivizing reviews

Social sites like Yelp can also help with advertising your cleaning business online. Here, users can rate your business and leave reviews. Ask all of your current customers to do so after you’ve completed a job for them. Incentivize reviews by offering discounts or free add-on services. Just remember that you legally cannot incentivize only positive reviews. If you’re going to give something for free, it has to be available to anyone, even someone leaving a poor review.

Be smart about who you ask to review your business. Since you can’t coerce positive reviews, only ask those customers you know are happy with your work to leave reviews. If you do receive a negative review, consider responding to it publicly in a respectful, helpful manner. Apologize for the dissatisfaction and offer some rectification. Doing so will show others that you accept you’re not perfect and that you want to make right any wrongs someone may have experienced. A nice bonus to that type of approach is that it lets other potential customers see how great your customer service is. That bad review can turn into a productive stream of new business if you handle it well.
